From Sheep to…

but as the designer of this shawl has been so nice as to name it after me, I guess I’ll have to give it a try huh?

No, she didn’t really name it after me…  but a girl can dream can’t she???

On the (maybe) job front: a lot has happened. I had a second interview on Friday with someone from the company. I had a very good feeling about this second meeting (just like I’d had about the first one). One thing I’d stressed several times in both interviews is that I’m used to have bosses people throw work at me and that I get it done and get it done fast (my nick name by one of my German team leaders was Der Blitz or The Lightning). The meeting ended with the guy saying that on Monday their HR manager would be in touch with me to have a chat to see what positions would be open for me. Then Friday afternoon my phone rang.

I was actually getting my act together to make some knitting/yarn pictures on my balcony as the sun was out. The lady from the company wanted to know what I thought of the meeting that morning. I said that I’d had a very pleasant time and a positive feeling about it all. She said ‘good, so did W.’ (you are on first name basis with everyone from the time of your interview… very unusual for me coming from a pretty formal German company, but I don’t mind :)). Then she said, listen, I need your help. She needed a document translated from French to Dutch. I told her that I was willing to help, but that I wasn’t really a translator. I had a feeling this was a test… She said, do what you can, I just do not have the time to deal with it right now. So I downloaded the PDF, and it was a 3-page document with a lot of legalese in it… So I gave myself til 5 pm to get it done. Just to make things more fun: I don’t have dictionaries. I mean I worked in a translation company where they had all the dictionaries I could ever dream of needing, so I never bought any for use at home. I managed to finish the text by 4.15. The good thing is that I can type while translating or translate while typing (I would read the text in french and my fingers would type dutch… but don’t ask me to drive a car hehehe… me not know…). I e-mailed it back to the company, and I called them. I went over a couple of things that I didn’t know in dutch with the lady and cleaned up a thing or 2 and submitted the final version at 4.45… Then she told me that they were paying me for this translation… And I’m getting paid the going rate for a professional translator too!!!

All of this to say that I’m now 99% sure they’ll offer me a job, otherwise they would not have sent me a text like the one I got… And my dad’s of the same opinion…
